As a Yoga Instructor and Yoga Therapist with a diploma in Holistic Counselling my intention in my classes is to foster a sense of safety and self acceptance through the gentle exploration of asana, mindful breath work (pranayama) and guided relaxation (Yoga Nidra). My personal journey of growth and discovery spans 25 years. I didn't start doing yoga till I was 40. A friend took me to a private studio with a Hatha Yoga teacher, I didn't know what to expect but one class and I was 'hooked'. In 2006 I went on to do my first yoga teacher training in British Columbia, Canada where I lived and worked for 8 years. It was not my intention to teach but at the end of my training I was asked to take on the role of studio manager and instructor, an unexpected and challenging role right out of teacher training. I delighted in accepting this unique opportunity to share my knowledge, passion and enthusiasm for yoga and put into practice all I had learned. This 12 year journey has led me to the heart of my practice, a unique blend of Hatha, somatic movement and Restorative Yoga. This style of yoga is for any body and focuses on restoring the central nervous system through activating the bodies natural ‘relaxation response’. The ‘relaxation response’ releases stress, facilitates healing, promotes wellbeing and slows the ageing process through a lowering of the heart rate, a reduction of blood pressure and slowing down of the breath. This work is the antithesis of the “no-pain-no-gain” mentality. You receive the greatest benefits from your practice not through forcing yourself into a pose, but by releasing and surrendering to it. Mind body and spirit unify and become one. This approach helps to cultivate compassion and acceptance of your body and its inherent limitations.
